SightReaderCE

SightReaderCE is a music sight-reading training game. It was developed in the CPT 355 class I taught this semester by John Sprunger. The semester isn't even over with yet and he already has it for sale on Handango. As of today he's sold 12 copies.

A few semesters ago Adam Dyer wrote an FTP client for the Pocket PC in CPT 355. After the semester he did a little more work on it and also is selling it on Handango.

It would be neat if CIT offered a course where the final product had to be an app you could actually sell commercially. Given the time limits of a semester, the project couldn't be that large. But John and Adam have proven it is possible. We touch on a lot of topics that are required to release commercial software in 355 but not all of them, not to the depth that you could go, and it is slanted towards mobile applications. You could call the course "Software Entrepreneurship". It would be a mix of technology and business.

Free installer software

In the past I've used what comes with Visual Studio 2003 and more recently the Nullsoft installer. Both were ok to work with. For any new projects, I'd probably choose the nullsoft installer. But here's a new free one to check out.

Advanced Installer 3.5
